RITUALITY / THE PRACTICAL PART

A little guidance.
Your own way.

From your first ritual to schedules, widgets, reflections, and backups. Start small and explore at your own pace.

A little intention. A rhythm that fits.

Start with one meaningful ritual, make its target manageable, and return to it in your own way. This guide takes you from your first check-in to flexible schedules, reminders, reflections, and backups.

Your first minute: create a ritual → choose when and how much → save → check in → explore your Journey.

No Rituality account is needed. The free version supports three active rituals. Examples in this guide are fictional and can be adapted to your life.

1. Find your way around

Rituality / Today is your daily view: see what is due, record progress, and browse dates. Use favorites, categories, and the Show/Completed filters to focus the list. A completed or unscheduled ritual may be hidden by your current filters.

Library holds your saved rituals, including Active, Paused, Finished, and Archived items. Search, sort, and switch between list and gallery views. Categories help separate learning, wellbeing, creativity, or whatever matters to you.

Settings contains appearance defaults, reminders, Google Drive backup, biometric protection, and app information.

2. Create your first ritual

  1. Use the app’s add control to open New Ritual.
  2. Give it a clear, personal name: “Read a little, every day” is easier to return to than a vague ambition.
  3. Choose a category, or use Add New Category to create one.
  4. Choose the rhythm and target. Start with a daily ritual and one session, or a quantity such as 20 pages.
  5. Set the start date. Add an end condition only if this ritual has a planned finish.
  6. Optionally choose reminders, a background or photo, and a short note explaining why this matters.
  7. Tap Save, then find your ritual in Today or Library.

Try a small beginning: one walk, a few pages, or one creative session. Your target is a choice you can adjust; these examples are ideas, not prescribed goals.

3. Choose a rhythm that fits

Daily: repeat each day. A natural choice for a short reading or reflection ritual.

Selected days or dates: choose specific weekdays or recurring monthly/yearly dates. Use this when the timing itself matters.

Flexible week, month, or year: work toward a target during that period without assigning every session to a fixed date. For example, three creative sessions in a week.

Intervals: repeat every chosen number of days, weeks, months, or years. Check the starting date because it anchors the rhythm.

Ordinal dates: use patterns such as a particular weekday in a month, when offered by the selected rhythm.

Anytime: keep an open-ended ritual available without treating every empty day as a missed appointment. This can suit a lifetime goal.

After changing a rhythm, review the target, dates, and reminders before saving. A flexible weekly target and a daily target describe different commitments.

4. Understand targets and progress

Sessions count separate check-ins. A target of three sessions may allow more than one on the same day.

Active days count distinct days with activity. Multiple check-ins on one day still represent one active day.

Sessions per active day describe how much you intend to do on a day you take part. Review this alongside the overall period target.

Quantity targets add measured amounts, such as pages or kilometres. Keep the unit consistent so totals remain meaningful.

Lifetime goals accumulate toward a long-term total rather than resetting with each daily or weekly period.

The current period’s progress and the all-time total answer different questions: “How am I doing this period?” and “How much have I done overall?” Finishing a period does not erase your history.

5. Check in and record amounts

  1. Find an eligible ritual in Today, or open it from Library.
  2. Use its check-in action after you have done the activity.
  3. For a quantity ritual, the Add amount dialog lets you enter the amount and review the date. Use the step controls or type a value.
  4. Tap Save to record it. Dismiss or cancel to leave progress unchanged.
  5. Open Journey to see the entry reflected in your history.

For litres, kilograms, and kilometres the step controls use half-unit increments; other units use whole-unit steps. Manual input lets you enter the amount you actually did. If you use an auto-complete action, it fills the remaining target rather than adding the full target again.

Example: a 20-page reading target with 8 pages recorded still has 12 pages remaining. Adding 5 pages brings it to 13, not 5.

6. Look back with Journey

Open a ritual and explore Journey to see its calendar, progress, and accumulated history. Choose a day to review the actions available for that date.

Forgot to check in? Eligible history can be backdated within the last 30 days. Check the date and amount before saving. Undo is also limited to the supported 30-day window and the actions available for that entry.

Need to move unfinished work? Rescheduling moves unfinished work; completed history stays on its original date. It is not a way to rewrite already completed activity.

Reflect: use today’s reflection action to pause and notice your experience. Reflection is offered for today.

For Anytime rituals, empty calendar days are neutral. For scheduled rituals, interpret the calendar together with the selected rhythm and target.

7. Make reminders helpful

  1. Open the ritual’s reminder settings and choose the times or reminder type that suits its rhythm.
  2. Accept any smart suggestions you want to use; suggestions do not become reminders by themselves.
  3. Save the ritual and allow Android notifications when prompted.
  4. Review any alarm or battery settings the app asks you to enable for dependable delivery.

A ritual supports up to 12 reminder times. Interval nudges and lead-time options depend on the reminder type. Choose a few useful moments instead of filling every slot.

Paused, finished, archived, or otherwise ineligible rituals should not offer actionable check-ins. A reminder from earlier may no longer be valid after a schedule or status change.

8. Add a home-screen widget

  1. On your Android home screen, touch and hold an empty area and open your launcher’s Widgets picker.
  2. Find Rituality and choose the Today list or an individual ritual design.
  3. Place it on the home screen, then select the ritual or ordered list requested by its configuration.
  4. Resize it using your launcher’s handles if needed.

Rituality offers three widget options: the Today list, a 4×1 ritual widget, and a unified 2×1 ritual widget. The Today list displays up to the first four active choices in your selection. Its overflow opens Today for the rest.

Widget helpers such as Today, Total, and Next show different aspects of your ritual. A quantity check-in opens amount entry; cancelling that dialog records nothing. Widget sizes and placement depend on your launcher.

9. Organize and change your rituals

Use Library to search, filter, and manage your collection. Mark favorites for quick access. Manage categories from the top-right menu; use the add control to create a category and choose its icon.

Edit changes a ritual’s setup. Review any confirmation explaining how a commitment change affects it.

Pause puts an active ritual on hold. Resume returns it to activity when an active slot is available.

Finished means its completion or end condition has been reached. Archive moves a ritual out of everyday use while keeping it recoverable in Library.

Delete is different from archive. Read the confirmation carefully and use archive when you want to keep the ritual and its history.

If a ritual disappears from Today, check the selected date, filters, schedule, completion state, and Library status before assuming it was deleted.

10. Make it feel like yours

Choose a signature background, Plain style, or your own photo. The editor changes the selected ritual; appearance defaults in Settings apply to future rituals. You can also add notes, voice recordings, or Spotify track details where offered in the editor.

A photo or short note can make the ritual personal: a book cover, a place that inspires you, or a sentence about why you started. Android may request access when you choose media or record audio.

Spotify links need Spotify or a suitable browser and may need internet access. They are optional; your core ritual tracking does not require a Rituality account.

11. Back up and restore

Your ritual data is stored on your device. Optional Google Drive backup helps you keep a recoverable copy. It is a backup-and-restore feature; do not treat it as live synchronization between devices.

  1. Open Settings → Google Drive Backup.
  2. Enable Back up to Google Drive and authorize the Google account you want to use.
  3. Choose Back up now.
  4. Check the connected account and the last successful backup information. Resolve any reported error before relying on that backup.

Backups include rituals, history, attached photos/audio, preferences, and categories. To recover data, connect the same Google account and choose Restore.

How restore combines data: it adds missing rituals, keeps existing rituals and categories, and applies backed-up preferences. It does not change device permissions, Google authorization, or biometric lock settings. Older backups may not contain preferences or categories.

On the free plan, choose up to three active rituals after restore. Extra restored rituals remain paused with their history. Verify your important rituals and media after restoring, especially before replacing or resetting a device.

12. Free, Premium, and privacy

The free version supports three active rituals. Paused or archived rituals let you retain history while choosing what is active now. Core features and optional Google Drive backup are available without buying Unlimited.

Unlimited is a one-time Google Play purchase that removes the active-ritual limit. Check the price shown by Google Play for your country and account. Purchasing access and restoring a data backup are separate operations.

Optional biometric protection helps restrict access on your device. Keep a backup if you want a recoverable copy of your data. Read the site’s Privacy Policy for details about local storage and optional third-party services.

13. Troubleshooting and support

A reminder did not arrive. Check that the ritual is active and eligible, its reminder is enabled, Android notifications are allowed, and relevant alarm/battery settings are configured. Recheck times after travel or a timezone change. Android and device power-saving rules can affect delivery.

A check-in is unavailable. Review the date, schedule, completion target, and ritual status. An old notification or widget action may be stale. Open the app to see the current state.

My widget looks different or has fewer items. Review its selected rituals and their active status, resize it if your launcher allows, and open the app to refresh the current view. The Today widget shows at most four active selections.

I cannot activate another ritual. The free limit is three active rituals. Pause one you are not currently using, or review Unlimited.

Backup or restore failed. Check the connected Google account, internet connection, and displayed error. Confirm a successful backup before making destructive changes to your device. A Google Play purchase does not itself back up your rituals.
